September 25, 2014

OREM, Utah- The Utah Valley University women’s soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to seven games as it played UC Riverside to a 1-1 double-overtime tie Friday evening at Clyde Field. The equalizer moves the Wolverines to 5-2-2 on the season, while the Highlanders turn their record to 4-1-2.

Utah Valley wraps up its seven-match home stand without a loss. The team had recorded four-straight shutout victories before Friday’s tie.

“We’ve had tremendous support from our fans,” said Utah Valley head coach Brent Anderson. “Our team responded to that support and played very well over the last seven matches.”

UVU was first to get on the scoreboard in the 74th minute when junior forward Kali Stubbs broke lose down the middle of the field and settled a deflected ball past the UC Riverside keeper and into the back of the net for the score. The score was the fourth of the season for Stubbs.

In the 75th minute, Riverside’s Tayler Dragoo and UVU junior keeper Jessica Duffin collided in the box. Dragoo was whistled with a red card, while Duffin received a yellow caution.

UC Riverside tied things up in the 79th minute when Highlander Tatum Lockett intercepted the ball away from Duffin and shot it over and out of her reach for the equalizing score.

Both teams went scoreless in each of the overtime periods to finish the match in a draw.

“We played hard today and I’m proud of the way we battled,” said Anderson. “We will fix a few things before we head out on the road Sunday. We will learn from this match and get better and move forward.”

Utah Valley will play the first of four-straight road matches at in-state rival Utah on Sunday in Salt Lake. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m. MT.
