Women's Soccer Falls To Niagara In Finale

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – The Iona College women's soccer team dropped its final Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season game to Niagara by a final score of 4-0.  The Purple Eagles scored one goal late in the first half before adding on three in the final 15 minutes of the match.
 
Sophomore Kelsey Araujo gave Niagara the lead in the 43rd minute with a breakaway chance that screeched into the bottom corner past Iona keeper, senior Tiffany Martinez.
 
The three late goals for Niagara came from sophomore Selena Mangoni, freshman Bayley Sullivan, and junior Morgan Genovese.  All four of the Purple Eagles goal scorers came off the bench.
 
Sullivan also added on two assists.  Sophomore Hadley Bucken chipped in with one helper.
 
Sophomores Madeleine Lessard, Amber Crispin and Mariah Elsenheimer, along with junior Mariana Jaramillo and graduate Jacque Rice recorded the seven shots for Iona on the day.
 
Niagara was called offside 10 times in the match.  The Gaels had the corner kick advantage 5-2, but the Purple Eagles outshot the Gaels 22 to 7, and had 11 shots on goal compared to six for the Maroon & Gold.
 
Iona's next game will take place in the first round of the MAAC Championship in Lake Buena Vista, FL.  The time and opponent for the match are still to be announced.  Stay tuned to ICGaels.com for all details as they emerge.
