Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College women's soccer team embarks on a two-match road trip beginning on Sunday, September 9, when the Seahawks travel across the Long Island Expressway to Stony Brook to take on the Seawolves at LaValle Stadium in a 1:00 p.m. start.

Last Time Out: vs. Iona (September 2, 2018 | Lost, 2-0)

 

  • The Wagner College women's soccer team fell to the Iona College Gaels, 2-0, on last Sunday at Hameline Field.
  • With the loss, the Seahawks fell to 1-4-0 on the season while Iona improved to 2-4-0.
  • The Iona contest marked Wagner's final match against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foes for the season.
  • The Green & White outshot the visitors, 9-7, and held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks during a scoreless first half.
  • Senior Katie Viscardi stopped four of her game-high six saves in the first stanza, with one coming in the 14th minute as she leaped high to stop Mackenzie Meixner's free kick attempt.

 
Wagner – Stony Brook Series History:

  • Sunday's contest between the Seahawks and the Seawolves marks the 12th all-time meeting between the two New York-based schools, with Stony Brook holding a 10-1-0 lead in the head-to-head series.
  • The Seawolves took last season's contest, 6-0, on Grymes Hill back on September 17. 
  • The lone Wagner against Stony Brook came back on August 31 in which the Green & White were victorious, 2-0, at Hameline Field. 
  • The Seahawks scored both goals in the second half as former Seahawk Samantha Jensen tallied her third of the 2014 season in the 54th minute while Daniella Davis added an insurance score in the 77th minute for her first goal of that season. 
  • Katie Marcy made nine saves on 15 shot attempts by Stony Brook. 

 
Wagner vs. The America East Conference:

  • All-time, Wagner is 3-18-3 against the current members of the America East Conference.
  • The Seahawks have yet to face New Hampshire and Vermont. 
  • Sunday's match is the first of two straight contests against AE members, as the Green & White will head to Hartford on September 13. 
  • Last season, the Seahawks went 0-2 against the America East, falling to both Stony Brook and Hartford. 

 
About The Stony Brook University Seawolves:

  • Stony Brook enters Sunday's match with a 2-4-0 overall record. 
  • Their scheduled match against NJIT on Thursday was canceled due to inclement weather. 
  • The Seawolves are looking to snap a two-match losing skid, after dropping a 5-1 road decision at St. John's on September 2 and prior to that, a 3-0 setback at Boston College.
  • Stony Brook started the season with six-straight road games, facing six teams from three different high-major conferences: Pac-12 (Oregon, Oregon State), ACC (No. 20 Notre Dame, Boston College) and BIG EAST (Seton Hall, St. John's).
  • Alyssa Francese and Julie Johnstonbaugh led the squad with two goals apiece with Francese leading with the way with five points (2g, 1a).
  • Goalkeeper Sofia Manner has seen the majority of action, starting all six games while recording 32 saves, which includes a career-high 12 against Oregon State. 
  • Stony Brook was selected to finish second in the America East this season, behind New Hampshire. 

 
Chart Toppers: 

  • As a team, Wagner is third in the Northeast Conference (NEC) in corner kicks taken with 24, averaging a league-best 4.80 per contest while also among the top-five in shots taken this season with 48 (9.60 per match). 
  • Individually, freshman forward Luisa Barone is among the top-ten in shots taken with 11. 
  • Senior goalkeeper, Katie Viscardi, has accounted for 18 saves this year (.692 save percentage) while posting a 1.76 goals-against average (eight goals allowed).
  • The senior netminder has produced 142 career stops, ranking fourth on the all-time career saves list, behind former Seahawk goalkeeper, Katie Marcy, who finished her career with 182 stops.
