Women’s Soccer: Embry-Riddle Rains Goals on ACU; Lightning Shortens Match

Phoenix, Ariz. – Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (2-7-2), from Prescott, Arizona, scored four goals in each half and defeated Arizona Christian University (2-5-0), 8-0, in Tuesday, Oct. 4 intercollegiate women’s soccer action at Rose Mofford Sports Complex in Phoenix, Arizona.  The match was stopped after 70 minutes of action due to thunder and lightning.  The Eagles outshot ACU, 23-1, and attempted 18 shots on goal.

Arizona Christian hosts Soka University of America (3-5-0) for a 5 p.m. match at Rose Mofford Sports Complex, prior to the ACU men’s soccer match against Soka University at 7 p.m.

ERAU midfielder Chelsea Page scored a three-goal hat trick, all on long blasts from 35 feet or more, and assisted on one goal, and forwards Kelsey Anderson and Carissa Frazier each scored two goals for the Eagles.  Page put ERAU ahead, 1-0, at 10:27, and Anderson scored both of her goals in the next 4:19 for a 3-0 lead.  Frazier followed at 18:28, off Page’s assist, giving ERAU a 4-0 lead.

Page hit a long shot from the right side at 47:04 early in the second half, and 1:27 later, Whitney Demarais lifted a long blast over ACU goalkeeper Kimberly Arias-Castro (Tolleson, Ariz./La Joya Community High School) for a 6-0 margin.  Frazier tallied at 56:46, and Page scored at the 60-minute mark, her third goal of the match in four shots on goal.  Frazier also attempted four shots on goal.  Arias-Castro totaled 10 saves in the match, all in the first half, and ERAU scored on all four of its second-half shots on goal.

ACU’s only shot, credited to sophomore defender Ericka Haddock (Las Vegas, Nev./Shadow Ridge H.S.), occurred just about one minute before the officials suspended the match due to dangerous lightning, and eventually called the game with 20 minutes still left on the clock.
