The No. 1 ranking changed hands in five girls soccer states last week, and in four cases it marked the end of undefeated seasons, most often in state finals.

Grandview (Colo.) moved back to the top of the Colorado rankings with an overtime victory over Broomfield (Colo.) in a 1-2 state meeting between undefeated teams. The result puts Grandview back in the national title chase while the rest of the spring states play out their seasons. Dimond (Alaska) was stunned in the state final by South Anchorage (Alaska), ending that program's undefeated run at 56 matches. Myers Park (N.C.) had its bid for a first-ever state title and undefeated season ended in a state final loss to Fuquay-Varina (N.C.). And then there was Notre Dame de Sion (Mo.), which rolled its first 20 matches allowing only one goal and climbed to No. 1 in the FAB 50 for the second straight season. But, just like 2017, the team's fortunes took a turn in the playoffs, this year losing in the state quarterfinals to nationally ranked Kearney (Mo.), which de Sion had beat earlier in the season.

Even on the boys side, a pair of state title favorites ended up with runner-up trophies as Baylor School (Tenn.) defeated McCallie School and Pleasant Grove (Utah) ended a perfect season by Herriman (Utah) in state final matches that were decided in penalty kicks.

This week, all eyes will be on Illinois as the remaining eight teams in the Class AAA girls tournament feature a pair of undefeated teams in St. Charles North (Ill.) and New Trier. With Notre Dame de Sion now out of the No. 1 running, St. Charles North and New Trier are expected to move into the No. 1 and 2 positions in the FAB 50 this week.
