New top teams shake NSCAA boys regions

Another week has passed in the world of high school fall boys soccer, and the NSCAA has marked out a new regional map for the country's top teams. Salesianum (Region IV) and Hinsdale Central (Region VI) take over top spots for the first time this season, while a pair of Jesuits out west come into contact in the top two for the first time.

Here's a shakedown on how the rest of the nation came out in this week's NSCAA boys polls.

Region I

Ludlow kept a hammerlock on the top spot its held all year, but No. 2 Farmington didn't have the same luck after suffering a loss last week to drop out of the top 10. Glastonbury shot up from outside the poll to take Farmington's spot behind Ludlow and leapfrog the rest of the poll.

1. Ludlow (Ludlow, Mass.)

2. Glastonbury (Glastonbury, Conn.)

8. St. Johnsbury Academy (St. Johnsbury, Vt.)

9. Suffield (Suffield, Conn.)

10. Portland (Portland, Maine)

Region II

New York's top three was unmoved for the second straight poll, though No. 4 Fayetteville-Manlius went 1-1-0 over the week to fall from No. 4 to No. 12 and make room for 8-1-0 St. Anthony's, which has crept from No. 11 into the top five in the span of two weeks.

2. Martin Luther King, Jr. (New York, N.Y.)

Region III

The status quo reigns supreme in the high places for New Jersey and Pennsylvania boys soccer. Some minor shuffles in the top 10 are the only real marks of substance here, as the top three kept their chairs and only one program moved into the regional top 10 that wasn't there a week ago. That's Lancaster's Conestoga Valley, which replaced North Penn at No. 9 and is 10-0-2 this season.

1. St. Benedict's Prep (Newark, N.J.)

2. Upper St. Clair (Pittsburgh, Pa.)

3. Cumberland Valley (Mechanicsburg, Pa.)

13. Timber Creek (Sicklersville, N.J.)

14. Pingry School (Martinsville, N.J.)

15. Lampeter Strasburg (West Lampeter, Pa.)

Region IV

Thanks to a loss last week to end its 42-game win streak, Wesleyan Christian fell out of the national top 25 this week. The program's regional drop to No. 6 wasn't as steep, but it did open the gates for a new No. 1. That in this case is Wilmington muscle Salesianum, which is 7-0-1 this year and well on its way to another Delaware state title. After a spell out of the polls earlier in the season, McDonogh is peaking and has climbed to No. 2 on the back of a perfect 11-0-0 mark.

1. Salesianum School (Wilmington, Del.)

2. McDonogh School (Owings Mills, Md.)

3. George Washington (Charleston, W.Va.)

10. Parkersburg (Parkersburg, W.Va.)

11. Garinger (Charlotte, N.C.)

12. Morgantown (Morgantown, W.Va.)

Region V

A week after scooting from No. 3 to No. 1 in Region V, Ohio's Mason is continuing its strong run with its 11-0-0 mark through last week. Incredibly, there was absolutely no movement here from last week inside the top 11, as each team held its ground in a rare show of unified force. Crown Point moved from out of the poll to No. 12 and is unbeaten at 13-0-1.

1. Mason (Mason, Ohio)

2. Columbus North (Columbus, Ind.)

3. Avon (Avon, Ind.)

4. Jackson (Massilon, Ohio)

15. St. Xavier (Louisville, Ky.)

Region VI

Life has settled into a dominant routine in the upper midwest, as East Lansing and Marquette continue to run the show with a combined 13-0-2 mark. Skyline tumbles from No. 3 to No. 12 this week despite its 7-0-0 mark, replaced by hard-charging Kettle Moraine and its 8-1-1 record. Minneapolis Southwest rockets into the top five after being No. 10 last week.

14. Eastview (Eastview, Minn.)

Region VII

For the first time in three weeks, Topeka's Washburn Rural is no longer this region's top dog. Thanks in part to a draw, Hinsdale Central rode its 11-0-2 record past Rural's 6-0-1 mark from No. 4 to the top for the first time this season. Columbia, Mo. program Rock Bridge hops into the top 10 for the first time this season thanks to a 9-2-0 start. Christian Brothers, the nation's winningest program over the last four decades, drops to No. 14 with a lackluster 8-2-4 mark.

1. Hinsdale Central (Hinsdale, Ill.)

2. Washburn Rural (Topeka, Kan.)

Region VIII

The west's resident fall No. 1, California's Jesuit, is still sitting pretty atop the regional poll as it has all year. But they have a chaser in their Oregon Jesuit counterparts, which moved from No. 4 to No. 2 this week. The two teams met in early September and produced one of the country's best high school games of the season, which ended in a rollicking 3-3 draw. The only thing separating the two is the Oregon Jesuit's 1-0 loss to California's Capital Christian last month. Capital climbs into the poll for the first time this week at No. 12.

1. Jesuit (Carmichael, Calif.)

2. Jesuit (Portland, Ore.)

3. Analy (Sebestopol, Calif.)
