Girls Academy Event: Saturday Standouts
The second day of action at the Girls Academy Event in Florida was jam-packed with games from sunrise to sunset.
Some of the teams came out and made a statement with their opening games while other teams looked to put up a good showing in their second games from the contest.
Among the standouts on Saturday was the FC Bay Area 06 team. The new club, which was founded after San Jose Earthquakes (the MLS franchise) pulled the plug on the girls program at the academy, is competing in its first national event. FC Bay Area decided to play the 2007 team in the 06 age group. The Quakes famously did the same thing at the last Development Academy event with the club’s 04 team. The 07 team did not have the same success, but the club is teaching the same principles that made those teams so successful previously.
Below is a list of the players who stood out from the games that TopDrawerSoccer saw on Saturday.
