Blake & Larin Earn Weekly Conference Honors
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Connecticut's Andre Blake and Cyle Larin earned their first career American Athletic Conference weekly honors as announced by the conference Monday morning. Blake, who was named the American Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year last month, earned Goalkeeper of the Week honors, while Larin was named Rookie of the Week after scoring his first career goal Friday night against St. Francis.
Blake, a junior, led a Connecticut defense that shutout the Terriers in UConn's season opener. The result was Blake's 28th career shutout.
Larin's first career goal came in the 24th minute Friday when he scored on a header off of a cross from fellow freshman Kwame Awuah.
In addition, UConn junior midfielder George Fochive earned a spot on the American's Honor Roll after helping the Huskies allow just one shot on goal Friday.
Connecticut returns to action this Friday at 7:30 p.m. when it hosts Boston University at Morrone Stadium.
