BROOKLYN, NY – The Iona College women's soccer program lost an evenly-contested overtime thriller at LIU Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon. Both teams had exactly 10 shots on goal but it was Marian Awad who scored the game-winner for the Blackbirds in the 94'.
Iona outshot LIU Brooklyn 5-4 in the first half. The Blackbirds applied pressure with five corner kicks attempts but after 45 minutes each goalkeeper had to only make one save. Awad had the lone shot on goal to test rookie Emma Havrilla for LIU Brooklyn. Junior Mariah Elsenheimer came off the bench and supplied the lone challenge on target for Iona.
Both programs had five shots in the second half. Iona had three shots on goal, including one in the 88' by redshirt freshman Mackenzie Meixner. LIU Brooklyn's lone second half shot on target was saved by Havrilla in the 86' on a go from Brittany Fazin.
