TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Top-ranked Florida State wrapped up the non-conference portion of its schedule Friday night with a 5-0 victory over Jackson State inside the Seminole Soccer Complex. 

“Overall, I thought it was a good, solid performance,” said head coach Mark Krikorian.  “Our kids came out, fought hard, created some chances and we were able to score goals in a variety of ways tonight.”

Four of the five goals on Friday came in the first half while Kristin Grubka led all players with a career-high five points as she tallied two goals and an assist for her first career multi-goal game.  Marta Bakowska-Mathews tied a school record with three assists in the win becoming just the fourth player to perform the feat as she joined Erin Grimsley (1996), Mami Yamaguchi (2007) and Jessica Price (2010). 

The Seminoles outshot the Lady Tigers 35-0, while maintaining a 10-0 advantage in corners.  Freshman Nora Kervroedan paced the Garnet & Gold with a game-high six shots, while Michaela Hahn and Carson Pickett followed with five and four shots, respectively.

“A lot of players played a lot of minutes tonight,” added Krikorian.  “It was an opportunity to show (what they can do) and get a positive evaluation for future games.  I thought overall they all did very well and fought hard.”

Tiffany McCarty, Kassey Kallman and Pickett joined Grubka in the goal column on Friday as Florida State moved to 9-0-0 on the year matching the school record for the longest win streak set in 2005.  Friday night’s win also marked the first time since 2006 that FSU completed the non-conference slate with an unblemished mark.    

Taylor Vancil recorded her first start and first shutout of the season as she played all 90 minutes between the posts.  The shutout was the fourth straight for the Seminoles extending their consecutive shutout streak to 438 minutes – the fifth longest shutout streak in school history and the longest since 2008.  FSU has now recorded seven shutouts in nine games this year.

McCarty opened the goal scoring in the 11th minute of play as she found the upper left corner from about 12 yards out following a nice lead-in pass from senior Dria Hampton.  The goal would eventually go down as the game-winner for McCarty moving her into a tie for second place all-time in the FSU record books with 11.  The Laurel, Md., native now sits with 50 career goals.  The assist for Hampton was her first career point as a Seminole.

Kallman would register her first goal of the season in the 18th minute deflecting a shot past Jackson State keeper Taylor Emerson following a double-assist from Jessica Price and Grubka.  Price’s assist was the 30th of her career moving her into a tie for first place all-time in the Seminole record books with Yamaguchi. 

In a span of 55 seconds, the Seminoles pushed their lead to 4-0 late in the first half on a pair of goals off back-to-back corner kicks.  Grubka was on the receiving end of both goals using her head on the first one, while one-timing a low liner inside the right post for the second score.  Bakowska-Mathews made two beautiful serves into the box off the corners to pick-up her first two assist of the year. 

Bakowska-Mathews would register her third assist of the game in the 81st minute when she found Pickett off a cross from the right side of the field.  The scoring play started after Rylee Hart put a shot on goal but Emerson was there for the save punching the ball out to her right.  Bakowska-Mathews collected the rebound and served a cross to Pickett who collected the ball and then drilled a shot inside the left post for her first collegiate goal.  Hart also picked up an assist on the play for her first career point. 

Emerson finished the game with 14 saves on the night for the Lady Tigers.

“Jackson State came in here and did a heck of a job,” added Krikorian.  “They competed, fought hard and gave everything they had; a credit to them.”
