TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Behind two goals from Carson Pickett and a four-point performance from Megan Campbell, top-seeded Florida State (19-1-3) rolled to a 5-0 victory over South Alabama (14-6-3) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday night inside the Seminole Soccer Complex.

The Seminoles scored three first half goals, all in the first 21 minutes, to advance out of the first round of the tournament for the ninth consecutive season.

Pickett put Florida State on top early scoring the first of her two goals on the night in the ninth minute one-timing a cross from Berglind Thorvaldsdottir from about six yards out to give the Seminoles a 1-0 advantage. Her second goal came just a minute and nine seconds into the second half when a cross from Thorvaldsdottir was deflected back toward the top of the box by South Alabama keeper Melissa Drish. Pickett was there for the rebound one-timing a low-liner inside the right post for her first career multi-goal game.

Kassey Kallman registered her first goal of the season in the 16th minute on a header off a Campbell throw-in. The senior defender flicked the ball inside the left post from about 15 yards out to push Florida State’s lead to 2-0. 

Campbell followed with her first career goal in the 21st minute scoring off a free kick from about 45 yards out. Following a South Alabama foul, Campbell took the free kick and attempted to put the ball on frame to create a scoring chance. But the ball was well struck beating the USA keeper into the upper right corner for the goal and a 3-0 Florida State advantage.

The Seminoles rounded out the scoring in the 90th minute when Nora Kervroedan slotted a low-lining shot inside the left post from about 12 yards out on the right side for her third goal of the season. Marta Bakowska-Mathews and Campbell were credited with the double assist on the play.

Campbell finished the night with a career-high four points on a goal and two assists. The native of Louth, Ireland, who pushed her season-high assist total to nine on the year, recorded her first career multi-assist game in the win.

Kelsey Wys picked up her 12th career victory in the NCAA Tournament following Friday night’s victory as the redshirt senior goalkeeper played all 90 minutes and made two saves to earn her 13th shutout of the season.

With the win, Florida State pushed the nation’s longest current home unbeaten streak to 32 games (31-0-1), while improving its NCAA Tournament record to 39-12-2 all-time.

FSU also remained unbeaten all-time in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament pushing its record to 13-0-1.

The Seminoles will now advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament where they will face Mississippi, who defeated SWAC champion Jackson State Friday night. A date, time and location for the second round match-up will be announced either late Sunday or early Monday.
