TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of Pittsburgh women’s soccer team (9-2-1, 3-1-0 ACC) fell for the first time since August 27 on Saturday at the hands of No. 2 Florida State, 6-0, at the Seminole Soccer Complex.

“First of all FSU is a really good team,” said head coach Greg Miller. “To be honest, I am generally pleased with how we played the game – especially in the first half. It’s the first game where we’ve had some offense against [FSU] in three years. Not only did we get shots, but we had legitimate chances to score.”

Pitt had not recorded a shot against the Seminoles in their last two meetings and were without any corner kicks in those games. Today, three Panthers notched shots to total four overall, two on goal, as Pitt earned a pair of corners.

“While we didn’t score when we should have, we were still creating the same kinds of chances. That showed me we’re very capable. We’re closing the gap.”

The loss snapped a program record eight-game win streak for the Panthers. Florida State’s six goals are the most surrendered by a Pitt team since falling at Virginia, 6-1, on November 1, 2014.

The Seminoles (10-1-1, 3-0-1 ACC) entered the matchup ranked second in the country by the NSCAA Coaches Poll and first nationally in RPI. The reigning NCAA champions improved to a perfect 6-0-0 at home this season with the result.

After Florida State netted the game’s first goal in the ninth minute, Pitt held the dynamic Noles offense scoreless until it recorded a flurry of three late goals to close the first half, including a score on a deflection. FSU would add another early in the second and their last with just eight seconds remaining.

Next up, the Panthers will host Boston College on Thursday, Oct. 8, for a 7 p.m. tilt to be broadcast live on ESPN3 from Ambrose Urbanic Field.
