The Penn State men’s soccer team will be adding a familiar face to its 2015 squad as head coach Bob Warming announced the signing of Austin Maloney, Wednesday, who is the younger brother of current sophomore forward Connor Maloney.

Like his older brother, Maloney will come to Happy Valley from Harrisburg, Pa., where he played for Bishop McDevitt High School. Maloney suited up for his school only during his freshman and senior years due to the well renowned club academy system. This past season he garnered All-State honors and was named divisional player of the year.

“We are so happy to add Austin to our program,” Warming said “He is an exciting player, great student and has the energy and attitude needed for success. We can't wait to get started with him.”

During his sophomore and junior years, Maloney played for the Pennsylvania Classics where he was selected to play in numerous high profile events such as the Academy Select Game and the Generation Adidas Cup.

In 2014 Maloney upped his game, scoring 33 goals which led the Mid Penn Conference to go along with 18 assists. His impressive play earned him a spot in the High School All-American Game, which featured the top 40 players from around the country.

“I'm extremely excited to get to work with not only with a great team but a great group of guys and coaches,” Maloney said. “I'm anxious to get started and create friendships that will last a lifetime.”

To go along with his superb play on the pitch, Maloney is equally talented in the class room, amassing a 3.8 cumulative grade point average to date and plans to major in business once he enrolls at Penn State.

Impressively, he will be the third collegiate soccer player in his family as he joins his brother at Penn State and his sister Kelsie, who recently wrapped up her junior year playing for West Virginia.

“I'm also really excited to get to play with such a great player like my brother,” Maloney added. “It is pretty cool to be able to play with him at such a high level and I know we will push each other extremely hard, just like we did at home.”

Maloney is Coach Warming’s lone signee on the official national signing day, but he expects to announce the arrival of some new faces to the program later this spring.
