SMU Falls at No. 7 BYU, 4-0
PROVO, Utah (SMU) – The SMU women's soccer team fell to No. 7 BYU, 4-0, at South Stadium Thursday night. The Mustangs dropped to 3-2-0, while the Cougars improved to 5-1-0.
SMU fended off the BYU attack in the first half, allowing one goal in the 30th minute.
The seventh-ranked Cougars tacked on three goals in the second half, as Michele Vasconcelos scored two goals (47', 71') and Elena Medeiros added one (49'). Preseason Mac Hermann Watch List honoree Ashley Hatch recorded two assists and Brynlee Welch posted one.
Freshman Allie Thornton led the Mustangs with a pair of shots, with one on goal, while Catie Brown registered a season-high four saves.
SMU opens a three-game homestand Sunday starting with Abilene Christian at 7 p.m. It is military and first responders appreciation day, where the Mustangs will honor all military, first responders and their families, with free admission with valid ID. Students who attend the game and check in with the Hilltop Rewards App will receive double points (120).
