DALLAS (SMU) – For the second straight game, the SMU women's soccer team dominated from start to finish, as the Mustangs rolled to a 9-0 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Sunday night at Westcott Field. SMU had seven different goal scorers, including freshman Allie Thornton and redshirt freshman Hannah Fleet, who led the charge with two goals apiece.

SMU (2-0-0) scored six goals in the first half, firing 22 shots. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi fell to 0-4-0.

The Mustangs took a quick lead by scoring 57 seconds into the match. Blair Thorpe scored her first goal of the season after collecting and finishing a cross from freshman Jessica Cooley.

Cooley, in her first career start, recorded her second assist of the game in the ninth minute, as she fed a cross to Fleet, who headed the ball passed Islander starting goalkeeper Jordan Wainright, from six yards out.

In the 10th minute, SMU took a 3-0 lead as Thorpe's cross found the head of Vanessa Valadez, who placed it in the nearside corner. The goal was the second of the year for Valadez, and her 11th career goal.

Thornton found the first of her two goals in the 13th minute finishing a shot that rebounded off of Wainright. Valadez took the initial shot, which setup Thornton for the wide-open goal. Just 11 seconds later, Fleet and Thornton completed a successful wall pass to set up Fleet for her second goal of the game. From the nearside, Fleet took a left-footed shot that bent over Wainright and into the far, upper corner. The redshirt freshman now has four career goals, with three in 2016.

In the 26th minute, freshman Avery Ortmann made it a 6-0 game with her first collegiate goal by tapping in a cross from Hailey Bishop.

With a comfortable 6-0 lead, SMU tacked on three in the second half, including a goal in the opening 37 seconds into the second period. From the top of the 18-yard box, Haley Thompson fed it to Claire Oates, who tapped it in for her first goal of the season.

In the 48th minute, Thornton made it a 8-0 game and posted her second goal of the game scoring from 18 yards out, finishing a through ball from Katina Tsapos. Thornton now has four goals on the season and nine points.

The final Mustang goal came in the 51st minute after Thorpe dropped a short corner kick to Thompson, who fired a low shot from 25 yards out, through the crowd into the lower corner of the net.

The SMU defense continued to control the backfield, allowing just five shots, none on goal, and four corner kicks. In the two games, the Mustangs have allowed just 13 shots, an average of 6.5 per game, with none on goal.

Next up, SMU heads to Bloomington, Indiana, for the Hoosier Challenge Cup. The Mustangs open action Friday, Sept. 2 against Butler, before facing host-school Indiana Monday, Sept. 5.
