Speculating on college homegrown signings
The simultaneous nature of the MLS and college offseason leads to plenty of speculation about which players might leave school early.
With the Homegrown program allowing MLS franchises to retain the rights of players in college, it provides an easy pathway for some college standouts to sign pro and skip the draft process. Benji Michel (Orlando/Portland) and Matthew Freese (Philadelphia/Harvard) have already departed early.
So which other players might also leave school or sign with their academy team? Below is a look at which players might leave early on each MLS team. The teams that don’t have close candidates to speculate on have been left off the list.
