Spencer Named To National Team of the Week
CINCINNATI – Senior forward Luke Spencer has been named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week after his three-goal performance this week for the Xavier men’s soccer team.
It is the first national team honor for Spencer who tallied two goals against Wright State and one against Cincinnati. He also aided the game-winning assist in the win over the Bearcats on Sunday night.
Spencer scored in the 62nd minute on Tuesday against Wright State to tie the score. Minutes later he converted a penalty kick that put the Musketeers ahead for good. It was his third-career two-goal game. His others came against Dayton in 2010 and last year versus Wright State.
The Cincinnati native put the Musketeers up against Cincinnati with his first-half goal, the fourth of the year. He later battled away a clearance ball and aided the game-winning assist early in the second half against the Bearcats.
Spencer finished the week with seven points, 10 shots, and seven shots on goal. He leads the Atlantic 10 in several categories including goals, goals per game, and points.
Xavier returns to the pitch as they travel to IUPUI for a Wednesday match at 7 p.m.
