TDS Division I Women's Top 25: Sept. 12
Make way for the Mountaineers.
The Big 12 power blitzed Duke last week, defeating the Blue Devils in Durham by a 3-1 score. That, combined with Stanford's 2-2 draw against Notre Dame on Sunday, propelled West Virginia to the No. 1 ranking in this week's Top 25 update.
In one of the weekend's best games, No. 24 Georgetown overtuned a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 win against No. 4 Virginia. The Cavaliers scored twice in the game's first seven minutes, before goals from Taylor Pak, Amanda Carolan and an exquisite Rachel Corboz free kick provided the winning margin.
Aside from the Mountaineers, No. 10 USC is now one of the nation's hottest teams, winners of five straight. The Trojans topped Loyola Marymount, before picking up a 3-0 win at home on Sunday against No. 9 North Carolina.
The Tar Heels did managed to upset No. 12 UCLA, defeating the Bruins 2-1 in Westwood, so their trip out west still had a bright spot.
