TDS Women's Division I Top 25: Sept. 7
With a feast of matchups between women's DI Top 25 opponents on Friday night, a reshuffling of the TopDrawerSoccer rankings seemed inevitable.
And although the top three teams remained into, with Virginia, Stanford and Florida State holding onto their spot in the rankings, a handful of upsets left their mark on the rest of the rankings.
West Virginia moved into the No. 5 spot after topping Penn State 1-0 on Friday night in Morgantown. The Mountaineers rolled past Villanova by an 8-0 score line on Sunday to extend their winning streak to four games.
No. 1 Virginia bested UCLA on Friday night thanks to a late winner, and freshman Courtney Petersen scored what proved to be the equalizer in a hard-fought 2-2 draw with No. 17 Pepperdine.
It was a positive trip out East for No. 12 California. The Golden Bears nearly picked off No. 4 North Carolina on Friday, conceding an 88th minute equalizer in a 1-1 draw, before topping 19 Duke 3-1 on Sunday in Durham.
