Published: September 28, 2013

HOLLAND, Mich. - Despite scoring the first goal of the game, the Trine University men’s soccer team fell to No. 24 Hope College 4-1. The loss drops the Thunder to 2-5-1 on the season and 0-3 in the MIAA.

Sophomore Kenny Rappuhn (Grand Blanc, Mich./Goodrich) notched his second goal of the season when he found the back of the net just 10:14 into the game. Rappuhn’s initial penalty kick was saved by the Hope keeper, but he was able to put home the rebound.

Less than three minutes later Hope would tie the game and then take the lead in the 38th minute as the Thunder trailed 2-1 headed into halftime.

The Flying Dutch would add second half goals in the 61st and 87th minutes.

Rappuhn led the Thunder with two shots on goal. For the match, Hope out-shot Trine 24-10.

Junior goalie Chris Stewart (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) made three saves on the night for the Thunder.

Trine returns to the pitch on Oct. 1 for a 4 p.m. game at Albion.
