STORRS, Conn. – Connecticut men’s soccer coach Ray Reid released the schedule for the upcoming 2014 UConn soccer season on Tuesday.

The Huskies will play 10 home games at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium, where they won nine of 12 games last season. Following two exhibition games against Quinnipiac (August 17) and Boston College (August 23), UConn will open regular season play on August 29^th against Coastal Carolina at home at 7 p.m. The Chanticleers went 19-5-0 last season and are one of seven teams Connecticut faces this season that qualified for the 2013 NCAA Tournament.

UConn plays twice in the first four days of its season, as the Huskies face Stony Brook three days later on Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. at Morrone Stadium, the site of the 2014 American Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Championship (Nov. 14-16).

Connecticut’s first road game is Sept. 5 against ACC opponent Wake Forest, which has won at least 10 games in each of the last two seasons. The Demon Deacons are part of a competitive list of non-conference opponents that make up 10 of the Huskies’ 18 regular season games in 2014. Eight of the 10 opponents finished last season with a winning record, including former Big East foes St. John’s and Providence. The other opponents to round out UConn’s non-conference schedule are Washington (Sept. 12), Seattle (Sept. 14), Iona (Sept. 19), Syracuse (Oct. 14) and Yale (Oct. 28).   

“We are excited to be taking on such a challenging schedule,” said Reid. “Our players will be pushed to their limits.”

Connecticut kicks off conference play on Sept. 27 when it hosts South Florida, which defeated the Huskies in penalty kicks last November to win the inaugural conference championship. UConn was the only team to go undefeated (4-0-4) in conference action in 2013, finishing the regular season in second place behind Louisville.

The Huskies host conference newcomer Tulsa on Oct. 12, as they face the former Conference USA member for the first time since 2011. The Golden Hurricane, who have reached the Elite Eight two times in program history, are 0-1-1 against Connecticut in a series that dates back to 2008.

UConn plays three straight home games before ending its regular season on the road in another contest against the Bulls. Connecticut finished last season with a record of 12-3-8 and became the only Division I school in the country to advance to the Elite Eight for the third straight season.
