Jenna Nighswonger’s first assist was the prettiest. The forward floated into a pocket of space, received the ball in stride, and floated a pass over the Duke back line. It was a wonderfully weighted thing, driven over the defense with just enough backspin so that Florida State striker Jody Brown could run it down — and dutifully finish.

Nighswonger added two more assists Thursday night, serving as the Seminoles’ primary creative outlet in a 5-1 rout over Duke. Though head coach Brian Pensky drew an impressive all round performance from his team, it was Nighswonger’s creative excellence that carried the Seminoles to a massive conference win.
