Tournament results in Florida, Texas and California helped reshape several state and regional rankings this week, but only the AZ Showcase in Arizona led to changes in state No. 1 rankings.
Brophy Prep (Ariz.) boys fell to St. John Bosco (Calif.) in the boys final, bumping Brophy from the top spot. Sunnyside (Ariz.), which was idle last week, moves to No. 1 for the time being. The top two-ranked Arizona teams met in the AZ Showcase girls semifinals with then No. 2 Hamilton defeating top-ranked Chaparral (Ariz.), then going on to win the tournament final. Hamilton moves to No. 1 in Arizona, followed by Chaparral.
In an interesting side note, this week's Arziona boys No. 1 Sunnyside, No. 2 Brophy Prep and No. 3 Hamilton (Ariz.) are a combined 28-5-3 but 5-5-1 against California teams, which includes an 0-5 record against FAB 50-ranked California teams.
Around the country last week, San Antonio LEE (Texas) boys secured their top Texas ranking with a tournament title at the North Texas Elite Showcase and St. Paul's (La.) boys reinforced why they are in the running for FAB 50 No. 1 with a Tampa Bay Invitational Showcase title.
The state No. 1s are Brophy Prep (Ariz.), Montgomery (Calif.), Doral Academy (Fla.), Punahou (Hawaii), St. Paul's (La.), Northwest Rankin (Miss.) and San Antonio LEE (Texas) for the boys; Hamilton (Ariz.), Monte Vista (Calif.), Montverde Academy (Fla.), Kamehameha-Kapalama (Hawaii), Mandeville (La.), Gulfport (Miss.) and Coppell (Texas) for the girls.
