NEWINGTON, Conn.--  The dark clouds against the blue sky almost perfectly matched the colors of the club being crowned champion Sunday afternoon.  And by the time the last trophy was hoisted into the air by the CFC United 19s at 6:15 p.m. after two lengthy rain delays, it had plenty of company.  Six others to be exact--CFC's 7 State Cup haul, bettering by one a nearly ten year old record that some thought might never be matched, much less broken.

But records are made to be broken.  At least that's how the old adage goes.  And the Connecticut Football Club did exactly that.  When you toss in the U18 Wildcard winning CFC Lazers who made a Cinderella run to the finals, CFC will be sending 8 teams to West Virginia for the Region I Championships July 2-7.  By winning 7 of 8 age groups, the club laid claim without much objection, to being the top girls soccer club in Connecticut for the 5th consecutive year.  CFC's 10 state finalists, including both finalists in the U13 and U18 age groups also set new records, and its' five year total of 23 state cups is nearly double the total of all other girls clubs combined (13) during that same time period.

In the U12 age group, the CFC Wolves' goal late in the first half held up as they held on to defeat the New England Comets 1-0.

In the all CFC U13 final, the CFC Wolves raced out to a 2-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 3-0 victory over CFC Arsenal.

The CFC Wolves U14s were one of only three teams to repeat as State Champions from 2008 when they scored off a scramble in the box with just three minutes remaining to defeat West Hartford Premier 1-0.

The U15 age group proved elusive once again as the CFC United U15s' late rally fell just short in a 3-2 loss to defending champion, Oakwood.  The United U15s scored first, but Oakwood scored three unanswered goals before CFC's furious late game rally.

CFC United defeated South Central Premier 1-0 in the U16 final on a goal early in the first half.  It was one of 5 games on the afternoon that was decided by one goal or less.

The CFC United U17s--the only team in any girls age group to repeat as State Champions last year--made it three years in a row when they defeated Academica 4-1, in a rematch of last year's final.

The U18 age group was also an All-CFC affair as the CFC United 18s raced out to a 2-0 halftime lead en route to a 4-0 victory over the CFC Lazers, who were making their first ever appearance in the State Cup finals.  It was the United team's 3rd consecutive appearance and 2nd consecutive victory in the Final.

The most exciting game of the day turned out to be the last, as the CFC United U19s rallied from a 2-1 second half deficit to tie South Central Premier 2-2.  After the score remained deadlocked through two overtimes, CFC advanced to Regionals on penalty kicks, 3-1 despite missing their first two PKs.  Andrea Young (Richmond) made two terrific saves during the shootout and Chelsea Smith (Quinnipiac) buried the winner, to lift CFC to victory.
