LINCOLN, Neb. – The Baylor soccer team (5-3-4, 1-2-2) scored first, but a second half goal by Nebraska (7-2-4, 1-1-2) led the two teams to a 1-1 tie Friday afternoon at the Nebraska Soccer Field. The Bears are unbeaten by the Huskers in their last three matches.

“It was a game of two tough teams that both had a lot of heart and fight,” head coach Marci Jobson said. “I am proud of the way we played against a quality team like Nebraska. Every point counts, especially on the road.”

Baylor jumped out to a 1-0 lead, scoring first for the second straight game. A pass from Megan Humke to Bethany Johnston in the 21st minute allowed for a perfectly delivered ball to the head of Lotto Smith for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Despite Nebraska taking two more shots in the opening stanza, Baylor took four shots on goal to the Huskers’ one and led 1-0 at the half.

Nebraska tied things up in the 47th minute, as Shay Powell connected on a goal early in the second half.

The two teams played even the rest of the way, and senior goalie Gianna Quintana made a crucial save, one of four, with under one minute remaining to preserve the tie.

The Bears’ defense held a Husker offense that averaged 3.67 goals per game to just one goal.

Baylor will finish the weekend road trip with a game at Iowa State on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 1:00 p.m.
