September 24, 2009
BOSTON, Mass. – In the first match-up between the two teams since 1973, senior Richy Dorman of Boston University tallied a goal and an assist, leading his team to a 2-0 victory over the Holy Cross men’s soccer team under the lights Wednesday at Nickerson Field. With the final, Holy Cross moves to 1-5 on the season while No. 19 Boston University moves to 5-2-1.

The Terriers struck first in the 13th minute on a second-try header from senior Richy Dorman, assisted by sophomore Ben Berube. Boston University scored again three minutes later on a shot off a pass put into the box by junior Aaron O’Neal assisted by Dorman and freshman Ade Akinsanya. Holy Cross saw its best opportunity to score in the half as junior Kyle Miller (Woodbury, N.J.) tallied his third shot of the game but the team was called for off-sides at 25:32. Sophomore Ryan Hall (Dallas, Texas) earned his first start in a Crusaders uniform, providing solid defense with the rest of the backfield, who allowed just four shots to come through after the second goal.

With the Terriers up by a score of 2-0 to begin the second half, Holy Cross turned up the offensive pressures as they registered three opportunities to score quickly. Defense remained strong as well, totaling nine shot blocks in the half, a season-high. Defense was the theme for the rest of the second half as neither team registered a score. Boston University won the shots contest, tallying 15 shots in the half to Holy Cross’ lone shot from sophomore Jordan Michael (Burnaby, British Columbia).

In the game, Boston University shot 27 times, with seven shots-on-goal as senior Thomas Booth (Patchogue, N.Y.) tallied five saves in the game, totaling 31 this season. Boston University won the corner kicks battle as well, 7-2.

Holy Cross will compete in its first Patriot League match-up of the season next, matching up with Lafayette at home on Saturday, Sept. 26. Game time is set for 3 p.m. at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium in Worcester, Mass.
