SMU men battle UAB to draw

DALLAS (SMU) - SMU men's soccer battled UAB to a 1-1 double overtime tie in both school's Conference USA opener at Westcott Field. Leone Cruz scored a goal in a second straight game to equalize the game in the 44th minute for the Mustangs.

The Mustangs (3-3-1, 0-0-1 C-USA) fell behind in the 37th minute when Victor Sambade scored his second goal of the season, to put the UAB Blazers (5-2-1, 0-0-1 C-USA) up 1-0. Cruz scored his equalizer seven minutes later off of a pass from Arthur Ivo, for Ivo's first assist of the season.

SMU outshot UAB by a margin of 22 to 13, and earned six corner kicks to UAB's one. In addition to goalkeeper Craig Hill, who lowered his GAA to 0.97 for the season, three other Mustangs, Adam Still, T.J. Nelson, and Chad Vandegriffe played all 110 minutes of the game.Arthur Ivo led SMU with five shots.

SMU wraps up the SMU Classic at Westcott Field on Sunday, September 27 at 1:30 p.m. against Missouri State.
