The TopDrawerSoccer All-America package is the culmination of months of research and evaluation of the top high school-playing talent in the nation. While high school soccer is offered in the fall, winter or spring -- depending on the state -- TopDrawerSoccer waits until after the school year is complete to release its All-America, All-Region and state All-Stars.
Of course, this was no ordinary school year.
The COVID-19 outbreak and ensuing pandemic brought high school sports to a sudden stop in March. The fall season was completed, of course. Six of the seven winter-playing states finished as scheduled. Texas, however, was two weeks away from playoffs when schools were shuttered, at first for a week, then ultimately for the rest of the school year. Texas held out hope on continuing its soccer season before finally announcing a shut down in May. TDS froze its winter rankings when the shutdown occurred. Here are the FINAL SIMA FAB 50 rankings for the Winter 2019-2020 season: BOYS FAB 50 | GIRLS FAB 50.
The early-playing spring states, such as Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina, started regular season play before the pandemic ended seasons in those states. Since no state finished the season, and very few actually started, TDS abandoned its state, region and SIMA FAB 50 spring rankings, along with its State Stars, All-Region and All-America program for the spring of 2020. Although other entities named spring All-America and Player of the Year honors, the absence of actual competition made it a nonstarter for TDS.
The lists below are compiled by TDS high school editor Sheldon Shealer and reflect observation and information provided by a national network of coaches and soccer reporters, which includes waiting for the release of local and metro all-star teams, a process that doesn't end until early July.
